William Powers joined Pittsburgh Opera in 2007 and currently serves as Director of Artistic Operations.
Mr. Powers is an alumnus of the The Juilliard School’s Professional Intern Program where he worked as the Assistant to the General Manager of the Juilliard Drama Division. In 1995 he joined The Juilliard School’s Department of Vocal Arts and the Juilliard Opera Center where he served as the Administrator of these programs.
In 1998 Mr. Powers joined the Metropolitan Opera’s Artistic Department as the Associate Director of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. He subsequently served as an Associate with the Metropolitan Opera’s Rehearsal Department and served on the staff of the Metropolitan Opera’s 2001 Japan Tour.
He has served as the Administrator of the Aspen Opera Theatre Center as well as Production Manager for the Vocal Program of The Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara. From 2003-2006 he was the General Director of the Berkshire Opera Company.
Mr. Powers has served on the Board of Directors of OPERA America. He has also judged for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the Irma M. Cooper Competition and the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Hamilton College and an MBA in Finance from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Business Administration.
